Introduction: Chicopee Woods is a 27 hole layout up in Hall County. The course offers three scenic and challenging nines and offers every practice and pro shop amenity you could want. Also, this might be the best marked course in the city, with tons of yardage plates on both sides of the fairway.
Getting Started: Though the course doesn't advertise or market too much, it doesn't have to. The place always has a steady stream of golfers. Be sure to call a couple of days in advance to get the tee time you want. Weekends fill up in a hurry. When you arrive: The pro shop isn't large, but it keeps a full inventory. The range and putting green are all you need to prepare yourself as well. This is a stern test of golf, I suggest arriving early to take advantage of the practice facilities.
Hole you will love: Mill Hole #1: This par 5 is a great birdie (maybe even eagle) opportunity. If you keep the ball to the left side on each of your shots, most of the trouble is taken out of play. It's a great way to start your day - or new nine - with a good score.
Hole you won't: School Hole #9: This used to be one of the toughest closing holes in the city. Though it's a par 5, there is very little room to miss on any shot. Your landing area for your second shot is pretty small, or else you risk being too close to stop your shot into the green, going into the water, or being back too far and having a blind shot.
Overview: For those that have not played Chicopee Woods, you don't know what you're missing. It's a great layout, almost always in good condition, and if you are a Hall County resident, at a bargain price. Even those that aren't Hall County-ites, this place is still a great destination. The rounds can drag on a little, especially in the afternoons when everyone and their mom comes out. But if you have the time, tee it up here. You'll go back. You can thank me later.
